The Children’s Ombudsman answers questions that arise regarding the epidemiological situation in the country

QUESTION:
What  should I do and where should I go during this period, if a family member is not feeling well  (has fever, coughs, sneezes or has breathing difficulty), or when this person has been taken to the hospital in an emergency?

  1. If a family member is not feeling well
If there is no other adult person around, then you are responsible for further actions. It is important to know that the number of the Single National Servicefor Emergency Calls of our country is 112. In order to keep it available, you can write it on a sheet to stick it next to the phone. It may take some time until an operator answers, however, you have to be patient and calm, because the person might be busy with someone else who also needs help. You need to be prepared to tell exactly what is going on and to provide some data that will be necessary: your name, address, phone number. After the operator has informed you that someone is coming soon for help, you just have to wait and be helpful to the family member who is not feeling well.

  1. If the only family member is taken to the hospital

Do not worry! In any case, you will not remain helpless because all the authorities are obliged to take action. First of all, you have to know that “the Emergency” notifies the mayor and social worker in your locality, who further must find your closest relative for you to stay in, when your family member will under the care and treatment of physicians. If this relative cannot be identified, then you need to know that there are Temporary Foster Centers, which are nothing but  similar to your home – it offers shelter, food, care and activities,  until your family member gets back home.

We must remember that during this period it is necessary to stay at home and take care of the elderly, to help them both at home and in situations similar to the ones mentioned above. We must wash our hands regularly, be responsible for online hours and wait until finally EVERYTHING WILL BE FINE!

If you have a similar question, you can find us at copil@ombudsman.md or secretariat@ombudsman.md and on the phone number 060002678.
