On December 3-14 of this year, the People’s Advocate Office plans several actions within the Decade of human rights. The 2018 edition of the Decade will be dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
During this period upon the initiative of the People’s Advocate Office there were held thematic lessons on the principles and values of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in the primary and secondary educational institutions.
On December 03, when it is the International Day of persons with disabilities, the staff of the People’s Advocate Office in collaboration with the representatives of the National Youth Council and Association of Blind Persons will organize awareness-raising actions on the problems the persons with sensorial disabilities face when speaking about the access to the public space. For this purpose, the routing of some blind persons from their houses to the social purpose institutions will be crossed together with the invited journalists. In this way, the attention of the representatives of Chisinau city hall, Praetura of Centru sector will be drawn on the existent barriers in Telecentru sector, where several blind persons live, in their access to social infrastructure. The subject of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities announced for 2018 year is „ Enabling persons with disabilities and insurance of their inclusion and equality”.
On December 04, the People’s Advocate Office will be the co-organizer of the Annual conference „Rights of persons with disabilities on the both banks of Nistru river – realities and perspectives” together with the Center for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, „Motivație” Association, Alliance of Organizations for Persons with Disabilities supported by the UN Office for human rights and IM Swedish Development Partner. The event will take place on December 04, 09.30 A.M. at Radisson Blu hotel, „Begonia” room.
On December 06, the People’s Advocate Office organizes the Forum of Human Rights Defenders. The event is occasioned by the 20th anniversary of the adoption of UN Declaration on human rights defenders, the 10th anniversary from the adoption of the Declaration of the European Council on human rights defenders, the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The People’s Advocate Office plans to discuss during the forum about the situation of human rights defenders in the Republic of Moldova through the light of the preliminary recommendations of the Special Rapporteur of the United Nations on human rights defenders recently made public when visiting the Republic of Moldova during the period June 25-29, 2018; the role of the People’s Advocate Office and international organizations in promoting and protecting the human rights defenders and values consigned in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
At the forum there are invited the representatives of NGO’s from the field of human rights, NTUCM, journalists; lawyers, representatives of the Lawyer’s Union, representatives of OHCHR, PNUD Moldova, OSCE, European Council. The event will begin at 09.00 in „Begonia” room of Radisson Blu hotel.
On December 10 when it is the International Day of human rights, the People’s Advocate Office will present during a conference the result of a sociological survey „Perception on human rights in the Republic of Moldova”. This survey includes the perception of population on human rights situation in the Republic of Moldova and it is especially focused on measuring the level of knowledge, attitude and experiences of population in relation to them. The Survey purpose constitutes the appreciation of evolutions or involutions in the field of the observance of human rights in comparison with the situation of 2016 year when a similar survey was conducted. The event will take place at 9:30 A.M. in the Conference room Assembly of Bristol Central Park hotel (Chisinau city, 32Puskin str.).
During the period December 3-14, the People’s Advocate staff will conduct trainings, participate to Radio and TV shows.
