Deputies of the People’s Advocate are appointed by Parliament. They assist the Ombudsman in day-to-day activities and serve as acting Ombudsman in his absence.
The responsibilities of the deputies may vary depending on the tasks assigned by the Ombudsman and the nature of the operations carried out by the People’s Advocate. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Managing tasks and overseeing the general operations of the People’s Advocate Office, or supervising specific departments or projects
- Analyzing or investigating cases, drafting recommendations, and preparing expertize reports on specific topics
- Developing action plans, public policies, and strategic documents for the organization
- Representing citizens before public authorities and participating in decision-making processes
- Participating in investigations and monitoring them, gathering evidence and documentation related to reported human rights abuses and violations
- Providing operational, administrative, and legal support to the staff of the People’s Advocate Office, upon request
- Identifying partners from academic, governmental, private, and international sectors to help achieve the goals and objectives of the People’s Advocate Office.
